My Thankful 30 {2016} Days 12-16

Last night I was able to get caught back up on my album. It had been a long day, but I was itching to get some creative play in. It feels good to be focusing on my mini because as soon as November is over, I jump right into documenting our December.

For the 12th, I once again focused on football because it's definitely something I look forward to in the fall and it means keeping the tradition going of watching it with my parents. My dad is the reason I got into the sport, so I'm grateful we can all enjoy it together. I felt like I had gotten away from stamping in this mini, so I was still on a kick of full page stamping.

It's all about the coffee for the 13th (and any other day), but this year is different now that we've moved. We have 2 local coffee shops that we've been enjoying walking down to and supporting. Perfect use for the coffee cup 4x4 card!

I used the prompt for the 14th to document some of the new to us restaurants that we've discovered. Good food makes me so happy! Since I used a collage of photos, I didn't want to try to squeeze my journaling onto the page. Instead I went through my stash of cards and found a 3x4 in a nice fall color and added my writing to that.

The 15th was about documenting a delicious pie we picked up. I used a paperclip to hold my photo to the page. Before I adhered my journaling to the patterned paper, I stamped on it to have it peeking out from beneath both my photo and writing.

On the 16th I documented about some of the other mini albums I've made. My journaling is on a tag that pulls out from behind the photo.  The black marbled print was another from the pad I didn't think I'd use, but it worked well to contrast the colors in the photo without being distracting.

To all that celebrate, I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving! I hope to see you back here on Friday when I share the details of the shop's Black Friday-Cyber Monday sale.

My Thankful 30 {2016} Days 7-11

Every couple of days I've been able to spend some time working on my album. I'm sure you can relate that as the year winds down, things seem to get busier. I've had to be more flexible this year and I have found myself taking photos as the opportunity presents itself and then I match them up with the prompt for the day.

So far it's working well, because when I sit down to make my pages, I can take the time to remember the snapshot and remind myself how truly grateful I am for these small moments that are making up my November.

For day 7, I bought a small pillow that's fashioned after a library check out card and I'm thankful for these touches that give our home a little more personality. Since the photo strip on the preceding page went off the edge of the paper, I backed it with patterned paper and built up my layers from there.

On the 8th I documented about the new grill we got. I trimmed a 3x4 card from my stash and adhered it with foam tape. That way I could use the metal leaf clip to hold my photo and journaling.

My page for the 9th went in a completely different direction than I had envisioned. My first attempt was to stamp the leaves in various colors and cut them out. It wasn't going the way I wanted, so I replaced all the colors with a light grey and made my own patterned paper. I stamped on directly on my photo and then used washi tape so that it could be flipped up to reveal my journaling.

For the 10th and 11th, I went without photos and had fun stamping away. I really need to remember how much I like the look of stamped images on patterned paper. For day 10, I used the journaling block stamp I designed and embellished it with more stamps.

A lyric from the song Waste a Moment by Kings of Leon made up my day 11. I didn't think I'd use the music sheet patterned paper when I first saw it, but it turned out to be perfect. Since my page for the day was taken up by the quote, I used a die cut tag and included my writing on the back.

I hope to back sooner than later to share more pages. My plan is to have this all finished up right after the month ends because like so many others, I'm excited to get my December Daily on!

My Thankful 30 {2016} Days 2-6

It's been busy, busy around here, but most days I'm able to find 15-30 minutes to keep up on my album. So far I've been enjoying working with the variety in page sizes, though it does present a challenge to have space for my journaling. I've been solving that by using different ways of tucking my journaling behind my photo because with a project like this, it's important for me to have my words along with my pictures.

For day 2, I used a die cut to mat my photo and then made some more leaves like what is on my album cover and then finished it off with a mini flair.

On the 3rd, using the same mini clothespin that was used in my photo, I adhered it to the page and it's holding my photo and journaling. The patterned paper is something I made using a stencil and Distress Inks.

Since I wanted 2 photos for day 4, I decided a double-page spread would be best. I used the same patterned paper on both sides and then a few die cuts to embellish my journaling. Because our kitties are a couple of nuts, the acorn stamp was perfect and I colored them in using a water brush and Distress Inks. There are also some ink droplets that got mostly covered up, but I always like the little bit they add to a page.

I had 3 photos for the 5th, so using patterned paper, I extended my page by having it open up to reveal my pictures and writing. To balance the die cuts, I stamped on my journaling block. I like to make sure I rotate between the primary pieces of my kit to keep my album cohesive. So from page to page you might see any combination of patterned paper, die cuts, stamps, and stencils.

Between the 5th and the 6th, I inserted a 4x4 card to use as an embellishment. Similar to how in Project Life spreads you might have filler cards, I wanted this one to show prominently because I love the design and it matched well with the pages it's tucked between.

On the 6th, I once again had multiple photos I wanted to include so I printed them in a photo booth style and adhered them to my page that I stenciled on. I cut out a couple of stamped images for my embellishment and then added my journaling to a small white tag that I held in place with the top album ring.

I've been enjoying seeing who else is participating in this project or one like it on Instagram. If you're also documenting your November, let me know, I'd love to see it!

My Thankful 30 {2016} Album Cover and Day 1

Happy November! This year has been filled with some amazing moments and so it's even more important for me to take the time to reflect on what I am grateful for as the year comes to a close.

For this year's Thankful mini, I went with a looser page style, mixing a variety of sizes. I was inspired after seeing prep work from Kelly Purkey and her December mini on Instagram. I trimmed white cardstock into 4.5x6.5 pieces and smaller. For my front and back cover, I cut 2 pieces to 5x7 and used album rings to bind it all together.

I knew when I purchased the patterned paper with stenciled letters that I wanted to cut it apart. I arranged them onto my cover so they would all fit and embellished it with die cut leaves, thread, and a few gold enamel dots.

For my first page, I very quickly put together my photo, journaling, and a couple of embellishments. The key for me to completing my album, just like in the past, will be to keep it simple. I have everything on my desk, ready to grab when I have a moment to get crafting.

I recorded a quick video talking a little more in depth about this project and you can view it here. I share a brief look at my past albums and then show the process of how my page came together. If you're participating in any form of a gratitude project this month, let me know, I'd love to see it! You can share with the tag #mythankful30 or leave a comment on any of my blog posts. See you soon!
