December Daily {2015} Days 11-15

Things had been going so well with getting pages done in my album, but after being away for a few days and then the busyness of Christmas, I've found myself unable to make more progress. Hopefully I'll find my groove before too long, but here are the pages I completed earlier in the month.

On the 11th we took advantage of the warmer temperatures and went to the gardens to enjoy the Winter Walk of Lights.

I was fearing that I would run out of time to get Christmas cards made, but in the end it all worked out and I spent time on the 12th writing them all out and getting them in the mail. I included a card in my album and the red bag will hold the names of all of the people I sent cards to. Since there were all of these extra bits in front of my day 12 page, I decided to keep the pockets simple by only adding the large gold letters and my photo.

Still enjoying the unseasonably warm temperatures, I snapped a photo of myself for day 13. Wanting a card that was specific to the weather, I created one in Photoshop Elements with the help of fun knit design.

On the 14th I received a surprise gift from a dear friend. Because the box was so pretty, I took a picture of it and then made a pocket that flips up revealing the gift and my journaling on the underside. I used a small piece of the ribbon from the box as the tab to lift the photo.

Inspiration for day 15 came from a page I had pinned. I've definitely been loving circles lately and you'll see them on another project here shortly. ;)

I'm looking forward to continuing work on my album, but I'm not going to force it. If I can finish up by mid-January, I'll be a happy camper.

This Friday there is a big shop update with several new sets of flair designed by both Brandi and myself along with a couple other surprises. The update will take place at 8am EST and we'll be sharing projects made with the new doodle flair. See you then!

My Thankful 30 {2015} Days 26-30

At long last, here are my final pages for my Thankful mini. It turned out to be quite chunky and I even had to replace the rings with larger ones.

Day 26 was Thanksgiving and so I dug through my stamps to find a sentiment that summed up our evening.

For day 27, I went off prompt for my photo and inspiration for all of the circles came from chatting with Brandi while we were each working projects.

I don't know about you, but when they include the cut-apart papers in varying size rectangles, I very rarely use them. It's especially harder when they're scaled down for a 6x6 paper pad. I cut this one little square out and paired it with some die cuts for day 28.

On day 29, I worked on putting together a little surprise happy mail and so that inspired using tags behind my photo. In case you'd like to make your own paper fortune cookies, I used these directions here with circles that were 3-3/8" in diameter.

And for day 30, I decided to document the tradition of my Thankful album. I usually have piles of projects on my desk and sometimes items get shuffled around. One of my mini flair had fallen out of another pile and it's like it was meant to be found right at that moment and was a perfect fit to my page.

If you'd like to flip through my album in it's entirety, you can find the images in my gallery here and all of my previous blog posts can be found here. Thanks so much for your thoughtful words and allowing me to ramble on about this project! I think I'm going to need a mini album break after this and December Daily. :)

December Daily {2015} Days 6-10

Like many people that are documenting their December, work on my album has come in spurts, usually having to wait until the weekend to find a chunk of time to make progress. For once, using pocket pages is actually going faster for me and I was able to get several pages made this past Sunday.

On the 6th I was also able to craft in the afternoon and decided that would be my story for the day. While I was checking Instagram, I saw posts from Brandi and Jessica about donuts so decided that would make for a nice afternoon break. Later in the afternoon the hubs called me to the front windows to look outside. After taking a long look at the gorgeous sunset, I grabbed my camera and headed outside to snap some pictures.

I cut down a pocket page to get my 2x8 pocket and using digital stamps, I made my own patterned paper with coffee and donuts.

The 7th was a long work day for both of us and I decided I didn't want to cook. We headed out for dinner that we topped off with an order of Funnel Fries for dessert. Again making my own patterned paper, I used an alphabet stamp set and repeatedly stamped the word YUM.

For the 8th, since there was so much flair making going on, I decided it needed a place in my album. I had bought some filler cards, but the colors were a little different than what's been in my album so I recolored the houses to include red and pink.

The morning of the 9th I got off to a slow start and decided I needed to head out to the park for some me time. Without music, my phone, or other people, I enjoyed a quiet walk and stopped frequently to take photos. After adding text to my photo, I printed it on cardstock and then cut it apart to fit into the pockets.

I usually let my stories come naturally for each day, but for the 10th I knew in advance what I wanted to document. On December 10, 2010, I met my hubs for the first time, though of course I didn't know he would be the one. ;) To celebrate, we replaced my original wedding band with a new ring.

Once again I used my silkscreen with gold acrylic paint and then layered it onto patterned paper. I used my Fuse tool to seal up my shaker pockets.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend ahead and I'll be back next week with the last pages of My Thankful 30 mini and hopefully some more December Daily pages. :)

My Thankful 30 {2015} Days 21-25

I had fun over the weekend catching up on my December Daily® album, but sitting on my desk glaring at me was my near complete Thankful mini. On Sunday morning, I typed up my missing journaling and made my page for day 30 so now it can be given it's home on the bookshelves.

A 30 day project can be a lot to take on as the holiday season approaches coupled with the excitement over creating a December album, but I really do recommend making a gratitude album. Whether it be for 30 days or just a week, or even in a different month than November, it really is a lovely treasure.

For day 21, I finally tried out using a silkscreen and it was easier and less messy than I had thought it would be. If you have one in your stash and haven't used it yet, definitely give it a whirl! On my page for day 22, I layered a couple of papers and embellishments to tie in with my journaling of loving layers of fall apparel.

Day 23 I added some punched hearts in a cluster similar to the glittering sunlight in my photo and for day 24 I cut apart a die cut to be able to add it to the top and bottom of my photo.

For day 25 I used a beautiful leaf stamp to create my background and added a mat to my photo to give the green and white from both a little separation.

I'll be back later this week to share more of my December Daily, but you can see snippets on my Instagram, @lilgik. In other news, Brandi and I have been hard at work getting new flair designs ready for January 1st as well as working on exciting new products that will be arriving early 2016. Sneak peeks will be coming soon so I hope you'll stay tuned!

December Daily {2015} Days 1-5

It took me a few days to be able to get going on my December Daily album, but once I got started, I've been making progress every couple of days. Just like with my past 2 albums, I focus on one story a day along with a photo. I had thought I'd hand write all of my journaling, but became so stressed with by the task, I resorted to my trusty computer and am typing it up. I also created my own numbers to use for each day, using a 1-1/2" circle punch to cut them out.

For the 1st I wrote about how the word focus has been on my mind for the past several weeks and I know that will continue as the year comes to a close.

On the 2nd I mailed out a box of good cheer to a friend and struggled for the rest of the week to not spoil the surprise.

We finally had a chance to put up our tiny tree on the 3rd. Even if we didn't have cats, I don't think we'd put up a full-size tree. We don't exchange gifts and so this is the perfect size to add some merry to our home.

On the 4th I took holiday portraits for a girlfriend. Her boys were very well behaved, but the outtakes from the day made me laugh as I went through and edited the photos.

It was feeling like winter had arrived on the 5th and I went outside in the morning and took some photos of the frost covered grass. Using inspiration from Ali Edwards and Brandi, I wanted to include a full page quote and went in search of one about winter. I found one by John Steinbeck that provides the perfect words to remind me to appreciate the cold that I dread so much.

Are you documenting your December? If so, let me know, I'd love to see it!

Daily Details Layout and a Sale!

Yippee, it's Monday and I'm so excited to kick off a Year-End Sale with new mini flair, returning mini flair, and a special surprise. Now through December 10th, take 30% off of your entire merchandise order with the coupon code YEAREND2015. We have exciting new flair designs and other products coming beginning in January and this will be your last chance to pick up some items that are in the shop now.

In case you missed out on any of Brandi's awesome doodle flair from past releases (or need more), you can pick them up until the sale ends. There are also 3 new sets designed by the extremely talented Jana McCarthy of Scissors, Glue & Paper. Jana has such a creative and fun style which is captured in her brush script designs. And as a surprise treat, one lucky customer will be selected at random from all of the orders that are made during the sale to have their entire order cost refunded back to them. Whoo hoo!

Using mini flair from Jana's set, All Mine, I made a layout about the food we ate on our recent trip to Asheville, North Carolina. Being big food lovers, we make a point to find good, local eateries to have our meals at, and this trip did not disappoint. I grabbed all of the food photos I had and sized them to 2x3 so that I could print three pictures on a 4x6. After a little shuffling on my paper, I found a design I was happy with and went about selecting my embellishments.

I had thought I would add in patterned paper trimmed to 2x3, but it became too busy, so I removed them. While digging through my embellishments, I found wood veneer die cut words and placed my mini flair around that. To accent them, I used a stamp and also sprinkled a little black mist onto my page. I'll tell you, it felt weird to make a layout without any patterned paper. ;)

Now head over to the store and pick up some mini flair of your own and when you create with it, please share because I'd love to see what you're making!

Project Life {October 2015}

Last weekend I was also able to get caught up on my Project Life pages. While that feeling didn't last because I now need to find time to do November, I was extremely happy to put some pretty paper to use. Since I haven't been making any full-size layouts lately, my stash hasn't been getting any smaller. Thankfully though, I haven't been buying anything either. ;)

For October I used my Felicity Jane kit that came for that month. I loved the colors and patterns, and even though I'm not big on blue, I found myself drawn to it. I challenged myself to use as much from the kit as I could and so my pages turned out a little on the busy side. I went back and added some white cardstock to the back page to try and soften the heaviness from all of the patterned paper and photos.

I hope that everyone's December has gotten off to a wonderful start and I hope to see you back on Monday as I kick off a year-end sale with a project using flair from a new designer! There are 3 new sets arriving, retired flair making a comeback, and a special surprise all happening on December 7th at 8am EST. See you then! :)

My Thankful 30 {2015} Days 16-20

I was able to spend some time on Sunday crafting and got my mini album up to date. I just need to make my page for day 30 and add the last of my journaling and my very chunky mini will be complete.

For day 16 I put to use a new die I'd purchased and chose a couple of papers I felt complemented the layered albums in my photo. My pages for day 17 and 18 also found me layering my papers in a very simple and similar style.

On day 19, I cut out some of the flowers from a piece of patterned paper and ran them along the opposite diagonal line of my photo so as to not compete with the picture.

The page for day 20 was one of my most simple, choosing just to mat my photo on a light teal paper and add a single die cut word.

I'll be back to share the remaining pages, but don't be surprised if you see a December Daily post before then as I'm looking forward to documenting our December. Can you believe it's already the first?! :)
