Make Stuff

It was looking like my intentions to begin creating an art journal were going out the window due to lack of time, but I was still purchasing supplies here and there. Always the case, right? ;)

For March I've been participating in the Fat Mum Slim photo a day challenge and it wound up being a very timely decision. It's giving me material for my Details mini book, getting me back to practicing my photography, and made me sit down and make this page.

My background began with putting droplets of Dylusions Ink Spray on watercolor paper and then pushing it around with a water brush. Then I added some small mist droplets in yellow and black and let it all dry.

Being on an image transfer kick due to the mini book class I'm taking, I wanted to try text transfer with Mod Podge. It wasn't quite a success, but I still like the effect I was left with. I'm not sure what the problem was as I've since tried it with different book pages as well as different paper and the results were the same, which was not text transfer. Anywho.

I added some ink with stencils and adhered my hand cut letters. Feeling like it needed one last touch, I placed a few enamel dots and then called it done. Even though I haven't been focusing on my art journal, I hope to slowly grow it over time. What helps you make time for being creative?

  1. It's a lovely little page Elise and I can so relate to that time and material thought. Making time is definitely a challenge and I usually allot myself to Saturday as my play day, some days I get a few hours on Sunday as well and then I also hope to dedicate a wee bit of time on Tue/Thur and that's usually all I get. So I guess my answer is I kind of just schedule it in rather than hope to fit it in.

  2. I haven't done much in mine either yet...it's still a bit intimidating to me, and I've been more on a roll with the Project Life stuff! All my creative stuff has been set aside for awhile lately too...just too much else going on that needs to get done.

Makes it that much sweeter when it's time to dive back in though :)

  4. It's lovely Elise. I'm finding it harder and harder to find time to make a mess! Hoping i'll get a few hours of the easter holidays to do something x

  5. Your page turned out beautifully.
As for the text transfer not turning out how it was suppose to…it looks pretty cool to me.
As for finding time to create….I try to fit a bit of time in daily….but in reality, that doesn't work.
But I have my friends over every Friday night to create.

  6. I love how this turned out, Elise! The mix of techniques is fantastic and the background really puts the focus on your large title.
