Sister Time
Let me tell you, this layout was quite the challenge for me! But it was a good sort of challenge. The second lesson for the On The Grid class that I'm taking at Studio Calico was all about random grids. Creating grids from random shapes is something that I was looking forward to when I signed up and the inspiration provided did not disappoint. While it was a bit of a struggle to let go, I think I've taken a step forward in my ability to break out of the box and be less structured.
I've been working on layouts from photos from the fall and felt this single photo was perfect for this lesson. 99% of the time, if I have a Starbucks cup in hand, then I'm with my sister. She's quite the fan and if she's treating, who am I to say no. ;)
I used a combination of products from Gossamer Blue {Gramercy Road}, vellum from a Studio Calico kit, and some embellishments from my shop. As I was arranging the paper bits, I was feeling like they were too small in relation to my photo. Then I had the revelation that I could layer the die cuts and labels to balance out my 4x4 picture. I'll blame my slowness on lack of sleep.
Once I made those embellishment clusters and added the day of the week tabs to the top and bottom, everything else fell into place. I wanted to add plenty of machine stitching and even though I have vellum adhesive, I just used a small piece of washi tape to hold the vellum in place while I stitched it down. The final touch was stamping on the tag. Now that I look at it I think I might add "Starbucks Time" to the bottom tag, but I'm not sure. Any opinions are welcome!
If you haven't already, there's still time to enter my giveaway here or purchase items from my shop at 25% off, it all ends Sunday, February 15th. Have a lovely weekend!
