Farm Fresh, So Yum

I think I was feeling a little stifled from working on projects that were 6 inches or smaller and had to take a break! These were the last photos that I wanted to scrapbook from the summer before starting work on our recent travel adventures.

You know that I always assemble a kit when I work on bigger projects, but you might not know that as soon as I have photos printed, I pick out the papers and then set it aside until I'm ready to work. That might not be for several weeks, which sometimes means I don't use the papers I initially picked, and that's exactly what happened here.

A little bit ago I made this layout that was inspired by Nicole Nowosad. I'd actually pinned two layouts by her and it's the second layout from the same blog post that inspired this page. I dug through my scraps and pulled several papers to punch all of my circles. I added pop dots and a little sewing for added dimension and texture. The title uses a chipboard alphabet from October Afternoon, the wood veneer are from Freckled Fawn, and a die cut banner from a Studio Calico die. No journaling because my June Project Life pages have all the details and these pages will in the same album.

My second layout also came from a recently pinned image from the blog Astero's Crafty World. This is a design I'd been wanting to try for some time and love all the little bits I was able to use. Pearls, sequins and wood veneer, oh my! To help it coordinate with the linear structure of the facing page, I lined the punched circles in the same style and used more of the chipboard letters. I'm going to be linking these layouts up over at Paper Issues and their current issue, Anything Goes. I hope you have a happy and crafty weekend ahead!

30 Days of Me {days 4-9}

Last week I didn't have a chance to work on my album, but I made it a point to take photos and write notes as each day's prompt came about. I worked on my mini a little this past weekend and am still not sure how I feel about it.

My biggest hurdle has been the order of the prompts that have been supplied. I feel like they're too random, swaying from superficial topics to prompts that push you to dig a little deeper into your feelings. This is just my opinion and it certainly was my choice to proceed in the order they were given. So again, something to think about if I were to ever do a project like this in the future.

Day 4 was filled with yummy food made at home. You can see that the left side is the back of day 3's vellum envelope that I embellished just a little.

I used a lovely photo of my parents for day 5. For day 6, I went without a page protector and had fun letting the photo and tag go off the page.

The back became a fun filler page to coordinate with day 6 and the hubs kindly took my photo for day 7.

Day 8 was a different type of to-do list because I had each day's itinerary and hotel info in the notebook that stays in my bag. Alpha stickers and a list for day 9 to keep it sweet and simple.

So that's where I'm at so far. Lots of stamping and using up those alpha stickers I've accrued. I also went back into my stash and pulled out the Maggie Holmes {Styleboard} bits I have. I'll be back later in the week with more pages. Have a great day! :)

30 Days of Me {days 1-3}

The first of September brought with it the start of the 30 Days of Me class that's hosted by Maggie Holmes over at Studio Calico. I was hesitant to take on a daily project, especially one that focuses on myself. In the end I decided to give it a whirl and figured it will give me the chance to try out some new creative techniques. And who knows, maybe this will be something that I return to every so often, though I would switch it to being done in my birthday month. :)

I assembled my kit early on, but didn't prepare my base pages like I have in the past with other daily albums. Since I didn't know what to expect, I went in with a clean slate. I'm not going to be able to keep up with it daily, but hopefully at least every few days I'll catch up.

I made a very simple cover page and then after the fact realized I wanted something to show the date. I was going to put the label on the page, but it felt out of place. I grabbed a shipping label and adhered it to that and really like the result. I knew I'd have items outside of page protectors, so this worked perfectly.

I began to second guess using the WRMK Instagram album because it really is teeny. I wound up doing a 2-page spread for day one's prompt due to the lack of space. I've since gotten a better feel for how to work with such small areas and am liking the results.

Some out of pocket action for day 2 along with an ode to my phone.

For day 3, I wrote about my day in the style of a diary entry and tucked it away in a vellum envelope that I made. Getting more creative with doodling and my handwriting is something that I'm pushing myself with in this album. We'll see what else I feel inspired to try as the month goes on! :)

Pause in 2014 {September}

Some of you may remember that my August project for focusing on my word was to volunteer with a non-profit organization. So for September's project, that of course meant creating a layout!

I had recently bought the September card kit from Simon Says Stamps because it was book themed and therefore I had to have it. :) I used several items from the kit for this layout and made a couple of 3"x4" cards for my upcoming Project Life pages. Those pages will have private journaling about why it was important to me to volunteer, which is why there isn't any on my layout.

I've been trying hard to be less stingy about my patterned paper and am winning the battle of just using it up and not holding on to it because it's pretty, oh so pretty. Especially with new collections coming out every time you blink. So in addition to items from the card kit, I used a paper from Studio Calico, a very old Basic Grey alphabet, a couple wood veneer hearts, some Heidi Swapp Color Shine, and a book flair from my Etsy shop.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!
